What causes Loose Skin?
Collagen and elastin – the proteins in the skin that are responsible for the plumpness, tightness, shape and structure – naturally decrease production as the skin ages. When combined with decreased muscle mass and the effects of natural gravity, the skin begins to sag and droop, resulting in unnatural contours and loose folds. Dramatic weight loss can also result in loose skin on multiple areas of the body. While there are surgical procedures available to correct these visible signs of aging, the healing and downtime is not always ideal.
